Black and White
It’s pretty incredible to me that we see in such vibrant color but we love things in black in white. I know that one is not the same but think about it. Have you ever actually seen a black and white photo that you didn’t like? There is a strange beauty in the plainness. So simple but when we study them we see things that draw us to the beauty of that moment. We can’t determine by the scene when it was taken, and most of the time that doesn’t even matter. We make up our own story and create the scenes before and after to turn the picture into and internal movie. Take that same picture and add the color we all see. All of a sudden we see the flaws, the imperfections of the photographer, and wonder why that shot was taken. We all see the colors and there are times that we are in complete awe of the scene, but more times than not we have some sort of ridicule to share with anyone that will listen. Why, when we want to see the world in color do we critique someone else’s view and how they interpret the colors? If they had simply put it in black and white there would be nothing to look down on. We would say there was a simple beauty and that would be that. Beauty has always been seen differently for each person. Color gives us the chance to look deeply without having to think too much about what really is in the scene. If the same picture was black and white we would have to open our minds and release our pre-conceived notions due to the fact that we would have to turn the picture into our own vision. Today, we don’t want to dig that deep. We want color because it is easy and we can scan and move on. There are moments when the black and white creeps in, fills our minds, and we begin to make the scene our own with our pallet of colors and at that moment……you get a text.
