Vacation is really what you make of it!

It is 11:15pm and I am finally sitting down to knock out my daily diary. I will never complain about my schedule because I am choosing to do what I do but even I really don’t know how long I can keep up this pace. The day started at 6:00am again this morning. Out the door at 6:25 I was off to handle some morning chores for a family member. As soon as that was over I headed out to the barn to help feed the horses and muck some stalls. I returned home around 9:45 so Michelle and I headed to Webber to get our workout out of the way. We finished our workout and headed over to another family members house to check in with them. About 1pm we headed down to Frostproof to pick everyone up some lunch. Once lunch was finished Michelle and I were able to get some more of our own work done and then headed out to get our grocery shopping done. About this time it was getting close to 5pm and we thought our day was nearing an end. Well, we got home put the groceries away and had just sat down on the couch to have a cold beer and the phone rang. The call was from Mrs. Kathy and her mare had had the foal earlier and she needed some help getting the watering system hooked up in the nursing field. We grabbed our plumbing kit, put our boots back on, grabbed a diet Coke and back out the door we went. As soon as we arrived on property we were met by Brianna and my mother, who Brianna had spent pretty much the whole day with. They also wanted to see the new baby. Baby horses are pretty amazing. They are all legs, a little wobbly, but very cute. A massive lightning storm kicked up so we were relegated to the house to let it pass. At this point I am still thinking about that cold beer I have yet to have and when my day might be over. After the storm passed Michelle and I started working on the water fix, Brianna started going through the barn getting horses and feeding them, and Brian showed up to finish up some fencing for the second nursing field. You see, the baby came about three weeks early so the push to finish up the two nursing pastures wasn’t really at a fever pitch since we knew we had time. Surprise, Mother Nature works at her own pace and decided that we needed to finish today. We manipulated some pipe, hose, and a few bad fittings but after awhile we had the automatic watering system complete for mama. As nightfall was over our shoulders we said our goodbyes for the night and drug our soaking wet bodies into the Sportage to head home. Oh wait, we haven’t had dinner yet and it is now 9:00pm, we are soaking wet and dirty, and the options of a healthy dinner are far and few between. The three of us decided our best option was to go pick up Subway. Some of our rationale was that we could at least get some vegetables with our sandwich. By the time we finished eating while sitting in the car (it was too cold and we were too dirty to eat inside) it was approaching 10:00. I cranked the car to leave and it dawned on me that I needed to take care of one more thing before we went home. We rushed over and took care of our last duty for the evening and finally hit the door at 10:35. Brianna quickly got ready for bed, Michelle has curled up on the couch and is sound asleep, and I am soon to follow. Why, because we start this process over again tomorrow at 6:00am. Man, summer vacation is really a misnomer. Today’s workout was a combo pack. We had some lifting and then did some running. We had three sets with a rep count of 21-15-9. The two lifts were dumbbell hang cleans and then handstand pushups. I think Michelle was using 10 pound dumbbells and I used 25 pound dumbbells. Neither one of us can do completely vertical handstand pushups so we got as close to vertical as we could and completed the workout. The running portion was 4 x 600 meters with 2:00 rest after each one. We completed this without too much stress. We both got faster with each set. Brianna had a skill day involving a couple of math problems and hanging with her cousins. Her workout was to be a kid today and between running around the back yard and working with 10 horses this evening she basically had an off day. Get what you want by going and getting what you want!
